Whelan's
As December Falls have been on a serious trajectory, and a Friday night headline slot at Whelan’s feels like exactly where they should be right now. If you’ve been following this band’s rise, you already know what’s coming. If you haven’t, this is your sign.
What to Expect
Led by the irrepressible Allie Sherlock (yes, that Allie Sherlock, the Grafton Street busker turned viral sensation turned fully-fledged pop-punk frontwoman), As December Falls deliver high-octane, hook-laden sets that leave audiences buzzing. Their sound pulls from the best of early 2000s pop-punk and modern alternative rock, with anthemic choruses that the Whelan’s crowd will absolutely belt back at them. The band have built a fiercely loyal fanbase through relentless gigging, and their live shows have a community feel that’s genuinely special. Expect crowd surfers, singalongs, and the kind of energy that only a packed Whelan’s on a Friday night can produce.
Good to Know
Doors open at 8:00pm. Whelan’s is a standing venue with a capacity of around 400, so it’s going to be tight and sweaty, in the best possible way. Tickets are €18, which is an absolute steal for a Friday night headline show. The venue has a full bar and accepts card payments. Whelan’s is an over-18s venue for evening shows, so bring valid ID if you look young. The upstairs venue may also be open depending on demand.
Getting There
Whelan’s is on Wexford Street, just off Camden Street, in the heart of Dublin’s south city centre. It’s about a 15-minute walk from St Stephen’s Green. The nearest Luas stop is Harcourt (Green Line), which is roughly a five-minute walk away. Dublin Bus routes along Aungier Street and Camden Street will get you close. The 16 and 65 both pass nearby. If you’re coming from the northside, the 83 drops you on Wexford Street itself. After the gig, you’re perfectly placed for Camden Street’s late-night pubs and takeaways. A Friday night on Wexford Street never ends at just one venue.
