About This Tour

This tour will be conducted by a postgraduate of history from one of Ireland’s leading universities. It will examine the complexities of the revolutionary era 1913-1923.

Itinerary

  1. Our Guide will walk you to the Neoclassical 18th century GPO, which was the head quarters of 1916 rebellion. We will discuss historical events at the front, outside of the GPO (15 min)
  2. Our Guide will walk you to O’ Connell Bridge and describe the surroundings such as the O’ Connell Monument, the life of Daniel O’ Connell. Our Guide will offer to take your photo with the iconic Ha’penny bridge in the background. (15 min)
  3. Our Guide will walk you around the outside of the castle and inform your about its history in relation to revolutionary Ireland. This part of our tour will be outside at different parts of Dublin castle. (20 min)
  4. Our Guide will walk you to the site of the revolutionary government 1919-1921 and current home for the Lord Mayor of Dublin. This part of our tour will be at the front and outside of the Mansion House. (15 min)
  5. St. Stephen’s Green is a beautiful park in central Dublin with lakes, swans and flowers. It was a battle site of the 1916 rebellion and there are many monuments representing Irish national struggle here. (20 min)
  6. Our Guide will walk you to the birthplace of Edward Carson, a unionist, who worked to retain Ireland’s membership of the United Kingdom in the early 20th century. We will also see the headquarters of Conradh na Gaeilge or the Gaelic League which promotes the use of the Irish or Gaelic Language (15 min)
  7. View the Famine Sculptures by the quays where Irish ancestors boarded coffin ships (10 min)
  8. Hear about the extraordinary life of the Rebel Countess who fought for Irish freedom during the revolutionary period in the beautiful surroundings of St. Stephen’s Green (15 min)
