Dublin: River Liffey Sightseeing Cruise
See Dublin from the River Liffey on a sightseeing cruise and admire the city's monuments from the water. Learn the history of Dublin, from the arrival of the Vikings to today.
Cló Gaelach is the traditional Irish script that once appeared on everything from shop signs to government documents across Ireland. It has largely disappeared from everyday life, but this workshop brings it back in a hands-on, accessible way right in the heart of Dublin.
Over two hours, your host introduces the history of the script, explains why it fell out of use, and then teaches you how to write it yourself. You do not need any calligraphy experience - the session is designed for complete beginners. There is something genuinely satisfying about forming these distinctive letterforms, with their sweeping curves and pointed strokes that connect you to centuries of Irish literary tradition.
As part of the experience, you will receive a specially crafted postcard featuring lost poetry from the Irish poet Eilis Ni Partholain (Alice Furlong), written in Cló Gaelach with an English translation provided. You can use your newly learned skills to write a personal message on it - making it a one-of-a-kind souvenir to send home or keep for yourself. The session also weaves in some modern Irish music and a few phrases of the Irish language.
