Every Saturday, Meeting House Square transforms into one of Dublin’s best food markets. It’s been running for years, and it’s still one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a Saturday morning in the city, for locals and visitors alike.
What to Expect
The market is a curated mix of artisan food producers, bakers, street food vendors, and specialty suppliers. You’ll find everything from sourdough loaves and French pastries to organic vegetables, handmade chocolates, smoked fish, and proper farmhouse cheeses. The street food stalls rotate, but there’s always something hot and delicious to eat on the spot, including wood-fired pizza, Middle Eastern wraps, freshly made crêpes, and excellent coffee from local roasters.
It’s not a huge market, which is part of its charm. You can browse the whole thing in 30 minutes, but you’ll probably linger longer once the smells get you. Meeting House Square has a retractable roof, so even if the Dublin weather does its thing, you’re covered.
Good to Know
Entry is free, and you just pay for whatever you buy. The market runs every Saturday from 10am to 4:30pm, year-round. It gets busiest between 11am and 1pm, so come early if you want first pick and a bit more space. Bring cash if you can, as some of the smaller stalls don’t take card, though most do these days.
There’s seating around the square if you want to sit and eat, but on a busy Saturday you might end up perching on a wall or eating as you walk. That’s part of the experience.
Getting There
Meeting House Square is right in the heart of Temple Bar, a short walk from practically anywhere in the city centre. The nearest Luas stop is Jervis (Red Line) or St Stephen’s Green (Green Line), both about a 10-minute walk. Dublin Bus routes along Dame Street and the quays will get you close. If you’re cycling, there are Dublin Bikes stations on Eustace Street and nearby on Essex Quay. It’s one of the most accessible spots in the city, so no excuses not to go.
