Poor at the Gate Theatre Dublin

Poor sold out its entire 2025 run at the Gate Theatre, and now it’s back for a limited six weeks. If you missed it last time, this is your chance. If you saw it, you probably already have tickets to see it again.

What to Expect

Based on Katriona O’Sullivan’s powerful memoir, Poor charts her extraordinary journey from a childhood in Coventry and Birmingham marked by poverty, addiction, and homelessness. Moving to Dublin as a teenager, the story follows O’Sullivan as she overcomes seemingly insurmountable obstacles to eventually earn a PhD from Trinity College Dublin.

Adapted for the stage by Sonya Kelly and directed by Roisin McBrinn, this production finds the humanity, humour, and resilience in a story that could easily be overwhelming. The cast - Mary Murray, Ghaliah Conroy, Aisling O’Mara, Thommas Kane Byrne, and Keiren Hamilton-Amos - have been widely praised for bringing real depth and warmth to the material.

It’s the kind of show that stays with you for weeks afterwards. The Gate is the perfect venue for it too - intimate enough that you feel every moment, but with enough space for the production to breathe.

The run goes to April 26th, but given how fast the first run sold out, don’t assume tickets will be there when you get around to booking.
