Dublin: Howth Coastal Boat Tour
Cruise along the Howth Head cliffs and around Ireland's Eye island on a small-group boat tour from Howth harbour. Spot seals, seabirds, and the Baily Lighthouse from the water.
The stretch of coast from Dun Laoghaire to Killiney Bay is one of the most beautiful urban coastlines in Europe, and it looks completely different from the sea than it does from the shore. This one-hour cruise covers the lot - from the grand Victorian harbour at Dun Laoghaire south past some of Dublin’s most famous landmarks and into the horseshoe curve of Killiney Bay.
The route takes you past the James Joyce Martello Tower at Sandycove, the famous Forty Foot sea bathing spot where swimmers brave the water year-round, and Bullock Harbour before you reach Dalkey Island. The island is home to a ruined church, a Martello tower, and a colony of grey seals that are often visible basking on the rocks. From there, the boat rounds Sorrento Point and you get the full panoramic sweep of Killiney Bay - often compared to the Bay of Naples and every bit as striking.
Dolphins are a fairly regular bonus on this route, and on the return leg you will see yachts from the Dun Laoghaire sailing clubs adding to the scenery. For an hour on the water at EUR 28, it is one of the best-value experiences in Dublin.
