About This Tour

Leave the city centre behind and walk one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the Dublin area. This five-hour guided tour runs from Dun Laoghaire south to the charming village of Dalkey, following the seafront path that locals treasure and visitors rarely discover on their own.

The walk begins at Dun Laoghaire DART station - just 20 minutes from the city centre - where your guide sets the scene with the maritime history of this Victorian harbour town. The East Pier, one of the finest harbour walks in Ireland, stretches out into Dublin Bay with views across to Howth Head and beyond. From there, the route hugs the coast past the historic Dun Laoghaire Baths, a grand Victorian landmark with stories that span swimming culture, social history, and community life.

At Sandycove, you stop at the Martello Tower that houses the James Joyce Museum - the very tower where the opening scene of Ulysses is set. Your guide brings the literary connection to life before the walk continues south through Glasthule and on to Dalkey. This medieval village punches well above its weight, with Dalkey Castle, independent shops, and some of the best restaurants on the south Dublin coast. Your guide wraps up with personal recommendations for food, drinks, and onward exploration - and the DART is right there to take you back to town whenever you are ready.
