About This Tour

Long before the Latin alphabet dominated Irish life, there was Clo Gaelach - a beautiful, distinctly Irish script that graced everything from street signs to government documents. It has largely disappeared from everyday use, but in this intimate workshop, you get the chance to learn it from someone who is passionate about keeping it alive.

Over two hours, your guide walks you through the history and character of this forgotten font, explaining why it matters and how it connects to centuries of Irish identity. Then you pick up a pen and have a go yourself. The materials are all provided, and the atmosphere is relaxed and encouraging. Whether your handwriting is elegant or appalling, you will leave with a genuine feel for the craft and a piece of your own calligraphy to take home.

This is one of Dublin’s most distinctive cultural experiences, and at just EUR18, it is an absolute bargain. It works perfectly for anyone who loves art, language, history or simply wants to try something completely different during their visit.
