Toner's on Lower Baggot Street is one of those Dublin pubs that straddles two worlds. During the week it fills with the after-work crowd from the embassies, law firms and tech offices nearby. At the weekend it becomes a destination for anyone who knows a good pub when they see one.
The interior still has the feel of the old grocery bar it once was - wooden shelving behind the counter, tiled floors, high stools. The snug is a prized spot. But the real draw is the beer garden out back, a rare suntrap in central Dublin that fills to capacity on the first warm day of the year.
W.B. Yeats reportedly drank here, which is fitting because the place has a genuinely timeless quality. The pints are good, the sandwiches are filling, and the atmosphere strikes that perfect balance between lively and civilised.
