The Palace Bar on Fleet Street is the pub that locals will point you towards when you say you are heading to Temple Bar. While the surrounding streets have descended into hen-party chaos, The Palace has maintained its dignity and its standards.
The pub has deep literary connections - Irish Times journalists have been crossing the road to drink here since the newspaper's offices were on Fleet Street. Flann O'Brien and Patrick Kavanagh were regulars. The whiskey collection is one of the best in Dublin, with rare Irish expressions that you will not find easily elsewhere.
The interior is classic Victorian Dublin - dark wood, brass taps, frosted glass. Upstairs is The Palace Whiskey Bar, a more intimate space with an even deeper collection. The pub is busy but never the kind of chaos you get fifty metres away on Temple Bar Square.
