The Niamh Strong Band

Bank Holiday Friday, and Niamh Strong has her band at Arthur’s. Blues, soul, and jazz covers a lot of ground, and the Niamh Strong Band use all of it: a singer-led set with a full band behind her, moving between late-night jazz club territory and proper blues feeling depending on where the set goes.

Bank Holiday Fridays in Dublin have a different energy to regular Fridays: longer, looser, and with the permission to stay later than you normally would. Arthur’s on Thomas Street is a good venue to spend that kind of night.

What to expect

9pm start on May Bank Holiday Friday. The set runs late, which on a Bank Holiday weekend is exactly the point. The Liberties at that hour is active and well worth the journey.

Arthur’s is a focused venue. It fills up for good acts, so booking in advance is sensible rather than optional.

About the venue

Arthur’s Blues and Jazz Club is at 28 Thomas Street, Dublin 8. The Liberties is one of Dublin’s most interesting neighbourhoods for a night out: old streets, good food options, and a music scene that’s been there long before the rest of the city started paying attention.

Getting there

Bus routes 51B, 123, and 77A serve Thomas Street. Luas Red Line (Fatima stop) is about 10 minutes on foot. Tickets on Eventbrite.
