Arthur’s on Thomas Street is a good small room for this kind of material. The blend of folk and blues works when the venue is the right size and the sound is right; both conditions are met here.

What to expect

8pm on a Wednesday, which is one of the underrated nights of the week for live music in Dublin. The midweek crowd tends to be self-selecting: people who are there because they want to be, not because it’s the night everyone’s out. That makes for a better room, usually.

The set will cover folk, blues, and country across the evening. It’s the kind of music that’s best heard live; the arrangements open up in a way that a recording doesn’t fully capture.

Arthur’s Blues and Jazz Club is at 28 Thomas Street, Dublin 8, in the Liberties. It’s a short walk from Christ Church Cathedral and close to the top of Patrick Street. Good for dinner beforehand; Thomas Street and the surrounding area have solid options.
