Smock Alley Theatre
When Billy Roche and Gary Lydon work together, you pay attention. Roche is one of Ireland’s most celebrated playwrights, and Lydon is an actor of extraordinary range. Their new collaboration, Of Mornington, is set in a rundown cafe and tells the kind of quietly powerful story that Roche does better than almost anyone.
What to Expect
Roche’s writing has always been about ordinary people in ordinary places discovering extraordinary things about themselves. His Wexford Trilogy is a landmark of Irish theatre, and Of Mornington sits in that same tradition - rooted in place, rich in character, and deeply human. Gary Lydon brings the material to life with the subtlety and intensity that’s made him one of the most respected actors in Irish theatre.
Smock Alley’s Main Space is the ideal setting. Intimate, atmospheric, and steeped in theatre history, it gives this kind of character-driven drama room to breathe. The run goes from April 14 to 18 - a tight window for a show that deserves a full house every night.
