Abbey Theatre
Marina Carr is one of Ireland’s most important living playwrights, and Mirandolina is a world premiere co-production between the Abbey Theatre, Teatro Stabile Veneto in Italy, and the Croatian National Theatre. This is international theatre at the highest level, arriving in Dublin as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.
What to Expect
Written by Carr from Carlo Goldoni’s La Locandiera, translated by Monica Capuani, and directed by Abbey Artistic Director Caitriona McLaughlin, Mirandolina follows a ferociously independent Italian woman in Dublin who risks everything as she faces down the indignity and dominance of patriarchal chauvinism.
The production arrives in Ireland following an Italian and Croatian tour, and features as part of the cultural programme of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. This is Carr at her most ambitious - an international collaboration that places an Irish woman’s voice at the centre of a European conversation about power, independence, and resistance.
The run goes from August 28 to September 5 on the Abbey Stage.
