Killiney Hill is Dublin’s most spectacular viewpoint. The walk to the obelisk at the summit takes about 20 minutes and rewards you with a panorama that’s regularly compared to the Bay of Naples. Dublin Bay stretches out before you, Dalkey Island sits below, the Sugarloaf and Wicklow Mountains rise to the south, and on clear days you can see the Welsh coast.
What to Expect
A moderately steep walk through woodland and along paths to the summit at 153 metres. The obelisk at the top was built in 1742 as a famine relief project. The views are genuinely spectacular in every direction. It’s popular with locals morning and evening, and you’ll often meet dog walkers, runners, and families.
The walk from the car park to the top takes 15-20 minutes. You can extend it by walking through to Dalkey Hill and the Vico Road for a longer loop.
Good to Know
