What to Expect

Janine Harouni has had a year that most comedians spend their whole career working towards. Two Edinburgh Comedy Award nominations, a run Off-Broadway, and an appearance at the Netflix is a Joke Festival have all built to this: a proper international tour with a show that has already been through the fires.

“This Is What You Waited For” deals with marriage and parenting, and it does so with the kind of honesty that makes audiences both uncomfortable and delighted. Harouni is precise without being clinical, and the material has clearly been refined to within an inch of its life. If you saw her earlier in the career cycle you will notice the difference.

Vicar Street suits her well. The 1,000-capacity room means she is close enough to the audience that the jokes land with impact, and the crowd at a Thursday night comedy show in Dublin tends to be switched on and ready.

Getting There

Vicar Street is on Thomas Street in the Liberties. Dublin Bus routes 13, 40, and 123 pass along Thomas Street. The Luas Red Line stops at James’s Hospital, about a 5-minute walk. From the city centre, it is a 15-minute walk via Dame Street and past the Christchurch Cathedral direction. Parking on Thomas Street in the evenings is generally possible.
