What to Expect
The Republic of Ireland Women’s national team are building on the momentum of their historic 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign in Australia and New Zealand. This April they host Poland at the Aviva Stadium in a UEFA qualifying campaign for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
It’s a significant fixture. The qualifying format is competitive, and points at home matter enormously in any qualifying campaign. Eileen Gleeson’s squad has a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, and the home support at the Aviva has become one of the more energetic atmospheres in Irish football across both the men’s and women’s teams.
For anyone who hasn’t been to a women’s international at the Aviva, it’s a genuinely good day out. The ground holds just under 52,000 and on a bright April afternoon with a meaningful qualifier on the pitch, the atmosphere tends to be excellent. This is accessible, affordable football at one of Europe’s best grounds.
Good to Know
- 3pm kick-off; arrive early to get settled and enjoy the pre-match atmosphere
- Concessions available throughout the ground
- The Aviva is fully accessible with dedicated facilities for supporters with disabilities
- Away fans in a designated section; home fans should check their specific stand allocation
- Family and junior tickets often available at reduced rates — check the FAI website
- No bags larger than A4 size permitted inside
Getting There
The Aviva Stadium is at Lansdowne Road in Ballsbridge, one of the most accessible sports venues in Dublin. The DART is the easiest option: Lansdowne Road station is a two-minute walk from the stadium, with frequent services from Connolly and Pearse stations. Buses run from the city centre on routes including the 7, 7a, 45, and 46a. Lansdowne Road is also a very walkable 30 minutes from the city centre along the Grand Canal.
