Aroundireland.ie runs a Dublin music history walking tour that uses the city’s streets as the text. Dublin has produced or shaped an extraordinary range of musicians: Luke Kelly and the Dubliners, Thin Lizzy, U2, Sinead O’Connor, Horslips, and many more. The walking tour connects those names to specific places, which is what makes a tour worth doing rather than just reading a Wikipedia article.
Starting at the Luke Kelly Statue, the route covers the locations that shaped Irish popular music: recording venues, pubs where bands played their first gigs, the streets that appear in songs, and the places where Dublin’s musical reputation was built.
What to expect
5pm Thursday, about 90 minutes on foot through the city. The tour is run by Aroundireland.ie, a company that takes the historical and cultural detail seriously rather than just walking a route. The Easter holiday timing means the streets are busier than usual but also that there are more visitors who want exactly this kind of contextual experience.
Wear comfortable shoes. Dublin pavements and weather both make sensible footwear a necessity.
Getting there
The tour starts at the Luke Kelly Statue. Book through Eventbrite; the page has meeting point details and any weather contingency information.
