Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 and became one of the most significant figures in modern Indian history. A lawyer, economist, and social reformer who experienced caste discrimination first-hand, he spent his life fighting for the rights of Dalits and other marginalised communities. He was the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, which enshrined equality and abolished untouchability. Ambedkar Jayanti - his birth anniversary - is marked with celebrations across India and among Indian diaspora communities globally.
In Dublin, the South Asian community has been organising this event at DCU All Hallows Campus in Drumcondra, bringing together cultural performances, food, and community gathering to mark the occasion.
What to Expect
A free daytime festival from 11am with cultural performances, traditional food, and community activity. Events like this typically include dance performances, music, speeches, and the kind of informal gathering that makes a diaspora community visible and connected.
