North Bull Island is a remarkable natural space right in the heart of Dublin - a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with a 5km sandy beach, extensive sand dunes, and internationally important wetlands for migratory birds. It’s one of the best free days out in Dublin.
What to Expect
Dollymount Strand is a beautiful long sandy beach perfect for walking, swimming (lifeguards in summer), and kitesurfing. The sand dunes behind the beach are ecologically important and home to rare plants and wildlife. The mudflats on the lagoon side attract thousands of migratory birds - brent geese, oystercatchers, curlews, and more.
The Bull Island Interpretive Centre has exhibits on the island’s ecology and runs guided walks and birdwatching events.
