Abbey Theatre
Frank McGuinness is one of Ireland’s greatest living playwrights, and Do You Come From Gomorrah? is a world premiere on the Abbey’s Peacock Stage. When a writer of McGuinness’s calibre debuts a new play at the National Theatre, you pay attention.
What to Expect
The play takes an unflinching look at the life of a young gay man, the love and violence that has shaped him, and the momentum of strength that keeps him moving forward as he negotiates sexual and sectarian politics, and unrequited longing. McGuinness has always been fearless in his examination of identity and power, and this new work promises the sharp, generous irony that has defined his career.
Directed by Sarah Baxter, who makes her directorial debut at the Abbey, this is part of a season that Artistic Director Caitriona McLaughlin describes as one where “the personal is fiercely political.” The Peacock Stage is the Abbey’s smaller, more experimental space - intimate, raw, and perfect for new writing.
The run goes from April 10 to May 9.
