Dance Before Dark has solved the problem that most people over 30 have with clubbing: they want to dance and they don’t want to be out at 3am doing it. The daytime disco format starts at 5pm and ends at a time when you’re still standing, which is its own kind of achievement.
HOUSE Dublin on Leeson Street Lower is a well-established venue for events like this - comfortable, well-run, with a floor that actually fits enough people to make it feel like a proper night out rather than a quiet bar with a DJ. The over-30s crowd brings an energy that’s different from a student club: people who know exactly what they want to dance to and aren’t self-conscious about dancing to it.
What to Expect
A DJ set playing the music that a predominantly 30-plus crowd wants to hear - this typically means 90s and 00s hits, classic dance tracks, and whatever else keeps a floor moving when the people on it have opinions about music. The afternoon-into-evening format means you’re home for dinner if you want to be, or you stay and make a proper night of it on Leeson Street.
This is one of those events where the demographic is the point. Everyone in the room is roughly the same age, everyone came with the same goal, and the inhibitions that come with being the oldest person in a nightclub simply don’t apply.
