Nile Rodgers is one of those musicians whose work you know even if you don’t know his name. The man behind Le Freak, Good Times, Everybody Dance, and the guitar lick on Daft Punk’s Get Lucky. He’s been shaping pop music for nearly fifty years, and he’s bringing CHIC to Dublin.
What to Expect
A CHIC show is pure, unfiltered joy. From the moment Nile Rodgers picks up that white Fender Stratocaster, the arena floor turns into a dance floor. The setlist reads like a greatest hits of the disco and funk era, peppered with tracks Rodgers produced for other artists, including David Bowie’s Let’s Dance, Sister Sledge’s We Are Family, and Diana Ross’s I’m Coming Out. It’s hit after hit after hit, and the energy never dips.
The band is razor-tight, the brass section is huge, and Rodgers himself is a magnetic frontman. He tells stories between songs, he’s warm and funny, and he clearly loves every second of being on stage. You’ll dance for two hours straight.
Good to Know
Tickets start from €55. This is a standing and seated show, so if you want to dance (and you will), go for the floor. Doors open at 6:30pm. No support act has been announced at the time of writing. The show is expected to run until around 10:30pm.
Dress code? Whatever makes you want to move. This is a gig where you’ll see people in their twenties next to people in their sixties, all having the time of their lives.
Getting There
3Arena is in the Docklands on North Wall Quay. The Luas Red Line runs straight to The Point stop, and it’s the easiest way in and out. After the show, expect queues for the Luas, so walking to Connolly Station (about 15 minutes) is a good alternative for DART or rail connections. Dublin Bus routes 151 and 53 serve the area. If you’re driving, Point Village car park is right beside the venue, but public transport is strongly recommended.
