Bohernabreena sits at the edge of the Dublin Mountains above Tallaght, where the suburban sprawl gives way to open hillside and the Dodder River runs through a quiet valley. It’s a place most Dubliners have never been despite it being within the county boundary - which makes a classic car show here an event with two things going for it: the cars, and the location.
The classic car community in Ireland is active and committed, and shows like this one draw vehicles from across the decades - pre-war machines, 1950s and 60s American cars, British sports cars, vintage commercials, and the beloved Irish classics of the 70s and 80s that trigger instant recognition for anyone who grew up here.
What to Expect
A free open-air show with vehicles on display from late morning. Owners are typically happy to talk about their cars, the restoration work involved, and the history of the models on display. Classic car shows at this level are the kind of event where you spend longer than you planned because there’s always one more car to look at.
The Bohernabreena setting adds something the usual car park or industrial estate venue doesn’t have. The Dublin Mountains as a backdrop, the valley below, the quiet of the area on a June Sunday - it’s a genuinely pleasant afternoon out.
Good to Know
- Free to attend, no tickets required
- 11am start - morning through afternoon
- The road to Bohernabreena is narrow in places; drive carefully
- Bring layers - it can be cooler up in the hills than in the city
- Worth combining with a walk in the area if the weather is good
Getting There
Bohernabreena is accessible by car via Tallaght and the Old Bawn Road. Dublin Bus does not serve this area directly. If you’re driving from the city, follow signs for Tallaght and then for Bohernabreena/Glenasmole. The journey from the city centre takes around 35 to 40 minutes. Car is the only practical option for this venue.
