Bloomsday on 16 June is one of Dublin’s most distinctive cultural celebrations. The day celebrates James Joyce’s Ulysses by retracing the steps of Leopold Bloom through Dublin on 16 June 1904. It’s quirky, literary, and uniquely Dublin.
What to Expect
Readings, performances, guided walks, lectures, and celebrations at locations from Ulysses throughout the city. The traditional Bloomsday breakfast (gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of burgundy at Davy Byrnes on Duke Street) is a highlight. Many people dress in Edwardian costume. Events run throughout the day at the James Joyce Centre, Sweny’s Pharmacy, Sandymount Strand, and other Joycean locations.
