Big Thief have gone from playing small Dublin venues to headlining the 3Arena, and every step of that journey has been earned. Adrianne Lenker’s songwriting is some of the best of her generation, and the band around her is equally remarkable. This is a big room for an intimate band, and they’ll fill it beautifully.
What to Expect
Big Thief’s music ranges from the delicate folk of songs like Masterpiece and Mary to the rawer, noisier side of tracks like Not and Vampire Empire. Live, they move between these modes seamlessly. One minute Lenker is singing so quietly the whole arena holds its breath. The next, the band is unleashing a wall of distorted guitar that hits you in the chest.
Their last album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You was a double record that showcased just how much range this band has. The setlist will draw from across their catalogue, and every song feels like it means something. This isn’t a band that coasts. They play every show like it matters.
Seeing them in the 3Arena is going to be a special experience - the intimacy of their music against the scale of the venue creates something unique.
