Belle & Sebastian: Tigermilk at 3Olympia

What to Expect

Belle & Sebastian are doing something special on this tour. Rather than a greatest hits set, they’re playing their two landmark debut albums on consecutive nights. Saturday April 4th is Tigermilk, the 1996 record they pressed in a run of just 1,000 copies as a music college project. Sunday April 5th is If You’re Feeling Sinister, released just months later in the same year.

Tigermilk set the template for everything that followed: delicate guitar lines, Stuart Murdoch’s hushed vocal delivery, bittersweet lyrics about misfit characters navigating loneliness and longing. Tracks like “The State I Am In” and “Electronic Renaissance” defined a certain strand of 1990s indie that still sounds completely singular today. Hearing them played in the intimate setting of the 3Olympia will be something else.

The band have toured extensively over the past decade and their live show has evolved from the famously reclusive early years into something genuinely warm and celebratory. Glasgow’s most literary pop group, thirty years on, still doing it on their own terms.

Getting There

The 3Olympia is on Dame Street in the heart of the city centre. Hop off the Luas Red Line at Jervis or Abbey Street and it’s a short walk across the river. Dublin Bus routes 16, 49, 54A and 65 stop nearby. Taxis and Ubers are easy to find on Dame Street after the show.
