Ardgillan Castle is a hidden gem on Dublin’s north coast - a Victorian castle perched on a cliff between Balbriggan and Skerries with stunning sea views. The 194-acre demesne is free to explore and perfect for families.
What to Expect
The grounds have Victorian walled gardens (including a rose garden and herb garden), woodland walks, a cliff-top path with panoramic views of the Irish Sea and the Mourne Mountains, and a good playground. The castle tours take you through restored Victorian rooms.
On a clear day, the views from the cliff walk are incredible - you can see from Howth Head to the Mountains of Mourne. It feels a world away from the city.

Getting There
Ardgillan is between Balbriggan and Skerries on the Dublin-Belfast road. Commuter rail to Balbriggan, then 15-minute walk or short taxi. Dublin Bus 33. About 40 minutes by car from city centre. Free car park.
