Paul Byrom is an Irish tenor with a career that spans Celtic Thunder, solo touring, and live concert performance across Ireland, the UK, and North America. He’s built his audience the old-fashioned way: through live performance, song choice, and the kind of stage presence that works in a room of 200 as well as a theatre of 2,000.
This evening at Walters in Dún Laoghaire is pitched as intimate - a smaller room, closer quarters, songs and stories rather than a full production show. That format suits him well and it suits Walters well, which is one of the better smaller music venues on the south Dublin coast.
What to Expect
A programme drawn from Broadway classics, Irish songs, and mainstream material that crosses genres: the kind of setlist that has something for anyone who likes well-performed songs. Byrom is a genuine tenor with range and control, not a pop singer dressing up in classical clothes. He also tells the stories behind songs, which makes the evening more than just a recital.
Walters on George’s Street Upper in Dún Laoghaire has been through a few incarnations over the years but consistently delivers a good live music experience. The room is right for this format - close enough to the stage that you’re having an experience rather than watching one.
