Jagged Little Pill turned 31 this year and it hasn’t aged the way anyone expected. What sounded like raw, confessional anger in 1995 sounds now like something close to prophecy. Rugged Little Pill are Ireland’s dedicated Alanis tribute, and they’ve built a following by treating the songs with the respect they deserve rather than playing them as nostalgia.
You Oughta Know. Hand in My Pocket. Ironic. All I Really Want. Head over Feet. One by one they come, and a room full of people who grew up with this album singing every word is one of the more cathartic nights you can have at a gig in Dublin.
What to Expect
Rugged Little Pill plays the Jagged Little Pill catalogue front to back, plus tracks from Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and the deeper cuts that Alanis fans will recognise and love. The band knows the dynamics - when to go quiet, when to lean into the crunch of the distorted guitar, when to let the vocals breathe.
The Sound House on Eden Quay is a multi-level venue right across the river from the IFSC. It’s not a massive room, which works in the show’s favour. Alanis material responds to close quarters.
This is a night for people who sang these songs loudly in their bedrooms in the late 90s. Bring that energy.
Good to Know
- Doors at 7pm, show at 7:30pm
- The Sound House has a bar on each floor
- The venue is 18+ unless otherwise advertised
- Eden Quay can be busy on a Saturday evening - allow time to get in
Getting There
The Sound House is at 28 Eden Quay, Dublin 1, on the north bank of the Liffey just east of O’Connell Bridge. It’s centrally located and well served by public transport. Dublin Bus routes along the quays stop directly outside. Tara Street DART station is about a 10-minute walk across the river. The Luas Red Line at Abbey Street is the closest Luas stop, less than 5 minutes on foot.
