What to Expect
A honeymoon turns deadly when a woman is found murdered aboard a luxury cruise on the Nile, and Hercule Poirot, who happens to be on the same boat, finds himself with a ship full of suspects and a tangle of motives to unravel. Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile is one of her finest puzzle plots, full of red herrings, double-crossing and the particular pleasure of watching a brilliant mind work through the evidence.
The stage version is a tighter, more intimate experience than the novel or the various film adaptations. With the action confined to the world of the ship and a relatively small cast, every character becomes a suspect worth watching closely. Christie’s construction is meticulous and the ending remains genuinely surprising even for people who know the story.
The Gaiety is one of Dublin’s great old theatres and a Victorian auditorium suits the period setting perfectly. If you like a night of elegant, intelligent theatre that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this is it.
