Africa Day is marked every year on May 25, celebrating the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963. Tallaght has one of the most diverse communities in Ireland, and the Africa Day Festival at Tallaght County Library is one of the most genuine community celebrations in Dublin’s calendar - free to attend, rooted in the neighbourhood, and genuinely festive.
What to Expect
Music and dance performances, food, and cultural activities spread through the library and its surrounds. Africa Day events in Dublin tend to be family-friendly in the real sense: events that work for all ages rather than events that have been retrofitted with a children’s area.
Tallaght County Library is a substantial public building in the town centre, and it gives the event enough space to breathe. Expect performers and community groups representing multiple African countries and traditions - this is a celebration with range rather than a single-country showcase.
It’s a free event, which means it draws from the whole community rather than the subset that will pay for a ticket. That makes for a better room.
